Heavyweight undertaker Colin Cuthell decided the time was right to take his burgeoning weight gain in hand and finally do something about it.
And that is exactly what’s happened.
Colin (64), from Bo’ness undertakers Cuthell & Sons, saw his weight slowly creep up over the years, finally topping out at just over 31 stone.
Having watched her dad become gradually more and more unhealthy, his daughter Michelle was the tipping point he needed when she admitted she was scared he wouldn’t survive another five years.
Colin, who had been diagnosed as a diabetic, was suffering from breathing difficulties along with such serious leg and back problems that he had to be pushed around in a wheelchair on holiday because he was so unfit.
Colin said: “I was an imposter. There I was, being pushed around in a wheelchair by the family simply because I was too indifferent to do something about my own weight.
“The doctor and practice nurse had continually warned me that my health problems were directly as a result of my obesity.
“Finally the penny dropped when Michelle admitted her fears about losing me.
‘‘Enough was enough. We decided that the Cambridge weight loss plan was probably the right one for me. The local consultant, Deborah Paris, visited me at home and we made a start on my weight.
‘‘When she weighed me and it showed 31st 4lbs even I was shocked.
“I just want people to know that, if I can do this, then anyone can. I didn’t have to do any exercise, simply re-educate myself and my body as to what was good for it.
“I ate the wrong things at the wrong time. Now I am no longer diabetic, I walk a lot, play golf again, enjoy family holidays and can even shop for clothes like normal people!”
And Colin deservedly won the Cambridge plan Over-50s Slimmer of the Year award.
