Four licensed premises in Linlithgow have won awards in the latest Best Bar None Awards Scheme.

Linlithgow Bowling Club, Platform 3, The Old Post Office and The Four Marys were among the award winners.

The scheme, sponsored by Diageo, Molson Coors and Heineken, is an integral part of the Safer Areas Initiatives within Scotland and focuses on safety and customer care in licensed premises.

It gives each venue the opportunity to prove it meets a standard of operation set in consultation with the government and alcohol industry.

It rewards safe and well-managed licensed venues with the issue of a plaque which can be used to promote the venue. West Lothian’s involvement is run by Police Scotland and West Lothian Council.

All the Linlithgow participants reached the required standards with the bowling club achieving gold for the fourth year in succession, with the other three attaining silver status. The awards were presented by Miss West Lothian 2013 Alicia Akinlami and 2012 winner Hayley Galloway at the Howden Park Centre in Livingston.

A spokesman for Linlithgow Bowling Club said: ‘‘We are immensely proud of the hard work undertaken by Peter Brown who strives to ensure that we are a welcoming and safe place to all our members and guests to attend.

‘‘To have gained gold for the fourth year running is testimony to the high standards he sets in the day-to-day management of the club, a task made easier by some wonderful staff, so well done also to Gayle Bishop, Ashley Johnston, Ronnie Henderson and Susan Ralph.’’
