Linlithgow Academy has shone through as this year’s exam results were released earlier this week.

Students who have worked for this moment over the past five years are delighted with their individual achievements, with most gaining the hoped-for results.

Hannah Cudmore (16) and Jamie Mason (16) both of Linlithgow Bridge, gained five straight As in English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Head of Education for West Lothian Council, Elaine Cook, said: “Linlithgow Academy has been one of our top performing educational establishments on a regular basis, and this year was no different.

“We have had 30-plus students who have gained five A grades in their Highers, which is quite exceptional.

“As a school, we are only as good as those who support our students, and it is to these staff, parents and other supporters that I offer my sincerest thanks.”

Jamie, who is hoping to study theoretical physics at St Andrews University told us: “I wasn’t so sure how I’d do in English, as it’s not my strongest subject but was very relieved after opening the envelope to find I had managed to get five A grades.

Hannah is looking to study medicinal chemistry at Edinburgh and hopes to pursue a career in this field.

She said: “I was delighted to find I had managed to get five As as I really wasn’t certain about two of my exams - it could have gone either way.

“I’m glad they’re over but it’s time to get ready for the Advanced Highers now.”
