A special meeting of Bo’ness Community Council has been called for tonight (Friday) to discuss the closure of Bo’ness Registrar’s Office.
Falkirk Council moved to close the office at its budget meeting last month in a bid to save cash.
Councillor Ann Ritchie this week met with council officers to look at how the closure could be prevented.
Community council convener Madeline Hunt said: “No-one wants to have to travel out of town to register a death. And it’s not just one journey, sometimes it takes several visits.
“No one wants to do that at a time like that.
“The meeting will look at what can be done to stop it or how we can retain some level of service each week for the people who need it.”
The meeting will take place in the upstairs room in Bo’ness Library at 7pm.
There will also be discussions about the future of the Kinneil Heritage event which was cancelled after the council withdrew its funding.
It is hoped local sponsorship might be found to help run a smaller-scale fun day in its place.
