Former Lord Provost of Edinburgh George Grubb has been honoured by the president of Poland.
George, of Queensferry, has been awarded the prestigious national prize, the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit, for his work in building relationships between Polish nationals and Scotland.
The award was made at the City Chambers in Edinburgh on Monday and presented by the Polish Consul General Tomasz Trafas.
George (77) said the award came ‘‘out of the blue’’ but it is down to his work during his term as Lord Provost when he helped to promote the Polish Student Festival in the city which was a celebration of their culture.
He said: ‘‘I am deeply honoured to be given this award.’’
