Queensferry MP welcomes childcare boost

Edinburgh West Liberal Democrat MP Mike Crockart has welcomed a major childcare package which is set to help 14,380 parents.

Working families will be given up to £2000 to ease the cost of childcare as part of a scheme to be rolled out in autumn 2015.

The Government has said it will provide 20 per cent support on childcare costs up to £10,000 per year for each child.

A family with two children under 12 could benefit by up to £4000.

The Government has also said people on Universal Credit will get 85 per cent of childcare costs covered.

Mr Crockart said: “This news provides a huge boost to hardworking families. The Liberal Democrats are committed to helping children get off to the best start in life and this package is just one example of this.’’
