A shoplifting team of two ‘hit’ Linlithgow last week targeting at least two local retail outlets - far from the Madding Crowd, and A Wee Mindin’.

The male and female, described as being in their late 20s early 30s, of slim build and both of whom had tattoos, had deliberately duped owner of A Wee Mindin’ Yvonne Sherratt using distraction techniques, before stealing a crystal clock valued at £25 and a paperweight costing £24.50.

Yvonne said: “I like to offer all my customers a warm welcome when they come into the store, and I certainly don’t go following them about as they browse.

“This pair however were very experienced at what they do, and knew exactly how to get my attention and distract me from the male, who stole the goods.”

Jill Pattle, owner of Far From the Madding Crowd realised the same pair had been in her shop when a number of leather purses valued at £35 each disappeared from a display.

She had CCTV footage of the man and woman which has since been passed to Police to assist them with their enquiries into the offences.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in West Lothian are investigating following a shoplifting at a shop in Linlithgow.

“The incident happened around 3.30pm on Monday 23rd June at the Far From the Madding Crowd store on the High Street. We have received no reports of theft from any other stores in the town.

“Enquiries are continuing and anyone who can assist is asked to come forward or call us on 101.”
