Stewart’s pulls the plug on retail shops

Stewart Electrical is closing its shops after more than 40 years.

The well-known local firm of Stewart Electrical is closing the retail side of the business, including their store in Linlithgow, making five staff redundant.

The independent family run firm, which has been trading from the same location on the High Street since 1985 have finally decided to close the doors to focus on the contracting side of the business.

Despite a restructuring of the business in 2011 in an attempt to maintain the retail sales side of the business, this has proved unsuccessful with the doors closing on June 27 for the last time.

The family-owned firm was established by George Stewart and is now managed by his son Alan, who said: “In the last six months sales have just disappeared.

“Supermarkets have been massively discounting electrical goods and the direction of sales is all online.”

Four full-time and one part-time staff will be made redundant when the stores in Bonnybridge and Linlithgow close.

“The hard work and dedication of our staff, in particular Ian, Marlene, Freddy and Isabel, has kept the shops open these past two years,” added Alan.

“As a result of the restructuring there is sadly no spare capacity in our contracting business. It’s been very tough to make this decision.

“I would like to thank our loyal customers, many of whom have been coming for decades.”

Customers with any queries regarding the closure are advised to email wayne@stewartelectrical.co.uk or call (01324) 484444.
