Concerns have been raised over the future of Queensferry’s main recycling facility at Tesco.
The unit has been out of action for two weeks. In normal circumstances it would operational within days, instead more recycling bins have been added.
And environmentalists are concerned that Tesco may be about to withdraw the service which also offers those who recycle glass, plastics and metals, Green Card points.
June Jansen, Queensferry and District Community Council’s environment spokesperson said: “We are concerned that the recycling unit has not been repaired. The store’s management said a decision is still to be made with regard to repairs.
“Our fear is that if it withdraws the facility, it will put pressure on the two other recycling centres on The Loan and at Scotstoun.”
June added: “The Scotmid containers are full to over-flowing most weekends. The closure of Tesco’s facility would create problems at other sites.”
As the Gazette went to press yesterday (Thursday, July 10), we were still awaiting a response from the company.
