Bo’ness Fair funds will get an extra boost this year – as a book all about the people of the town has been re-printed.
Peter Aitken has updated his 2002 book, Wha’s Like Us? Bo’ness The People – adding in a whole host of new famous faces and characters from through the years.
Initially, Peter had planned to just release an e-book with a few changes. However, after a chance meeting on New Year’s Day, he then decided to have a new version printed.
Peter (77) explained: “Back in October, my son Keith suggested that I should turn it into an e-book, which he helped me to do, and it’s now available to download on Amazon and Kobo.
“I then met businessman Alan Steele who said I should get it printed again and he would cover the costs.
“It seemed a good idea as a lot of older people wouldn’t be able to read the electronic version.”
Peter first wrote the book when he was a member of the Bo’ness Fair Committee and its funds were falling short.
He said: “Before I retired I was a commissioning engineer, latterly with Shell.
“I spent my last five years writing commissioning procedures – basically idiot- proof instructions – so this is a bit different!”
Included in the book are details about West End Star Jo Gibb, who won her dream role of Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, as well as business executives, doctors, surgeons and entertainers.
New additions include Dan Bell, who moved to Canada and had many adventures there working on open cast mines.
Footballer Jordan Burns, who plays in the US, and showjumper Jemma Kirk, who is aiming to take part in the 2016 Olympics, are also featured.
The book, priced £10, will be available from the Book Shop in Bo’ness town centre, with all proceeds going to Bo’ness Fair fund.
