Make sure you can vote

PEOPLE eligible to vote across West Lothian has soared by nearly 1,000 since December 2010.

Figures were confirmed by the new Register of Electors data that shows voters increased by 968 from 125,325 to 126,293.

Residents are being urged to keep momentum going and make sure they are registered to vote for the Council Elections on May 3, 2012.

Returning officer Graham Hope said: “Registering to vote is very simple and takes only a couple of minutes to do. I’d strongly urge everyone to make sure they are registered as soon as possible. If you are not registered, you will not be able to cast your vote in May.”

There are nine ward areas in West Lothian and 33 councillors will be elected.

The deadline to register is April 18, 2012. Forms to register or to vote by post are available from www.lothian-vjb.gov.uk or can be requested by emailing election@lothian-vjb.gov.uk Forms are also available in Council Information Offices and local libraries.
