Linlithgow’s SNP councillor Martyn Day has announced his intention to stand for Westminster at the General Election next year.

Martyn has been a councillor in Linlithgow, where he grew up, for 15 years.

If selected as the SNP candidate for Linlithgow and Falkirk East, he will take on Labour’s Michael Connarty, who has held the seat since 2005.

Martyn has accepted nominations from SNP members in Grangemouth, Armadale, Blackridge, Westfield and Torphichen.

He said: “Since the referendum the political landscape of Scotland has changed completely and the polls confirm that virtually any seat is takeable”.

SNP members in the area are due to receive their candidate selection ballots on January 14. A final selection will be made in February.
