Edinburgh’s West’s Liberal Democrat MP, Mike Crockart, has welcomed employment figures and said they demonstrate the importance of sharing economic progress across the UK.
Figures published today by the Office for National Statistics show the number of unemployed claimants in Edinburgh West (which includes Queensferry and Kirkliston) was 1119 in June 2014.
This is 412 (26.9 per cent) lower than June 2013 and 68 lower than May 2014.
The unemployment rate is also 27 per cent lower than it was in June 2010.
Mr Crockart said: “I am delighted unemployment has fallen in my constituency for the fourth month in a row and this is down to the hardworking business community in Edinburgh.
“Edinburgh West is home to Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh Airport, multi-national companies such as RBS, Diageo, Aegon as well as a thriving SME and start-up community.
‘‘All of these businesses are playing their part in Edinburgh’s success story.
“I will continue to work with the Edinburgh West Business Forum to help local businesses and will continue to promote business and employment in Edinburgh and further afield.”
