The tense wait for the postman on Tuesday ended with smiles for some top pupils at Linlithgow Academy.

In fact there were some fantastic results, much to the delight of head teacher David MacKenzie and he praised the young people for their hard work.

Kyle McLachlan (17) fared well with three A (band 1) Advanced Highers in Biology, Chemistry and Geography, along with an A (band 1) Higher in Physics, adding to the five band A Highers he gained last year.

Kyle is now preparing to start Edinburgh University where he will study medicine.

Daniel Devine (17) and Shreyas Rajagopalan (16) both gained five A grade Highers. Daniel’s subjects were Chemistry, Computing, Geography, Maths and Physics; and subjects for Shreyas were Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Maths.

Mr Mackenzie said: “It has been another exceptional year for Linlithgow Academy with some fantastic results, and a lot of hard work from staff, pupils and support from parents.”

Lawrence Fitzpatrick, executive councillor for education, said: “The results for West Lothian pupils are very positive in Standards Grade, Higher exams and Advanced Higher.

‘‘Results in Advanced Higher have increased and are above the 2012 national average and comparative average, which is very encouraging. I congratulate all pupils who achieved their goal. I am delighted with the increase in attainment.”
