DADS on a mission to climb the top peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in only 24 hours are starting their epic adventure today (Friday).
Alan Evans (47) decided at Christmas that he needed to get fit and lose weight, and what better way to do it than to get the lads along as well.
When his friend Sammy McKee said he was going to climb Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdonia (Wales) in just one day, he agreed it would be just the challenge he needed.
Joined by friend Bobby Grant, each of the ‘Lithgae Lads’ has been in training and raising money for individual causes.
Alan is fundraising for Motor Neurone Disease, which his mother died of four years ago, Bobby is raising funds for Maggie’s, after losing his wife to cancer last September, and Sammy is doing it for the voluntary witness protection service,
Alan of Kettilstoun Crescent has been spurred on by wife Christine and daughters Emily (10) and Alicia (8), adding: “ I didn’t know what I was letting myself in for!”
Weighing in at 15st 13lb in January, Alan has been at the gym every week to get in shape and now tips the scales at 13st 11lb with over £700 already pledged. The men, all in their 40s, start their climb at 5pm on Friday at Ben Nevis, hoping to complete it in five hours, then it’s a drive with friend Simon Law to climb Scafell Pike at 4am on Saturday, before taking on Snowdonia at 1pm, hoping to be off the mountain by 5pm on Saturday.
Alan added: “The only things that could stop us are traffic or injury. The worst part will be driving from Ben Nevis to Scafell Pike and starting the climb during the night. ”
