Peep at the past from Linlithgow

Peep at the past Benghazi 1960
Peep at the past Benghazi 1960

This week’s Peep at the Past harks back to 1960 and is situated in Benghazi in the Libyan Desert.

The photograph was taken of B Company of the 1st Battalion of the Royal Scots during a break on a march in the desert.

The main soldiers in the photograph (centre and right) were just two of the many local men who served with the Royal Scots at the time.

The piper is David McIntyre, brother of Tam and Peter McIntyre, who now lives in Canada. The soldier holding the Bren gun is George Fleming, who still lives in Linlithgow and submitted the photograph.

If you have an interesting old picture that you think would be suitable for this column then email it to editorial@journalandgazette.co.uk or hand it into our office at 114 High Street, Linlithgow.
