Police swoop on ill-gotten gains

OVER £68,000 cash was grabbed from suspected criminals and £6.5 million worth of assets identified for seizure in one of the largest operations ever done by Lothian and Borders Police.

Around 280 police officers and staff were involved in Operation Opulent - 48 hours of action last week - with 25 addresses targeted and 44 people charged. Other activities included visiting metal dealers, enforcing warrants, road checks on main routes, and working with local authorities, British Transport Police, and The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).

In West Lothian, four houses were searched, £200 worth of drugs seized, £4415.38 in cash seized, there were nine road checks and 21 vehicle offences.
