A Falkirk railway bridge dubbed an eyesore is finally being refurbished.

Work started this week on Ladysmill Bridge on Kerse Lane and is expected to be finished by April.

Network Rail say the bridge - built in 1935 - will be cleaned, inspected, repaired and repainted.

The announcement was welcomed by Councillor Robert Bissett.

He said: "The Ladysmill Bridge is seen by visitors and residents when entering or leaving Falkirk on the east side.

"It is in a bit of a state and an eyesore and this has been raised many times in correspondence to me.

"In 2018, Network Rail finally agreed that the refurbishment would be carried out in 2020/21 and they have been true to their word."

"As chairman of local heritage group Falkirk Made Friends, I am delighted Falkirk’s engineering heritage is being preserved."

The work will take until April 2 but there will be a break over Christmas and traffic management removed.
