THE POST Office will have a public consultation if they move from the Regent Centre it confirmed this week.
Linlithgow Post Office is currently housed in the RS McColl shop at the Regent Centre, which is up for let, with the lease on the property running out next month.
But the Post Office assured locals this week that Linlithgow would not be left without PO services.
A Post Office spokesmann said: “The Post Office recently announced a £1.34 billion investment programme in its network, which included a commitment that there would be no further programmes of branch closures.
“The Post Office network is at its most stable for over a quarter of a century and we are committed to maintaining the network at its current size.
‘‘We are working hard to find the best solution for the Linlithgow Post Office and are in discussions with the current franchisee to explore all options to ensure that services to the local community are maintained.
‘‘In the event that we need to relocate to different premises, we would undertake a local public consultation before any changes take place.”
Nick Davis, secretary of Linlithgow Community Council, suggested the former Linen Bank building on Linlithgow High Street would be the perfect alternative venue for a town Post Office.
