MEMBERS of South Queensferry Womens’ Rural Institute celebrated their first anniversary last week.
The membership of the group has increased steadily since its formation and has now reached 44, with new members being added every month.
Each month the group aims to stage a themed event. It kicked off with a Bollywood style night but there have also been demonstrations on self-defence and a 1940s evening. They have appeared on “The Hour” STV’s teatime programme and entered a variety show competition.
And as expected there is always plenty of homebaking on offer with member Donna McLean creating their special anniversary cake.
Events pencilled in for the coming months include Upcycling, the art of reusing unwanted items by converting them into something better and a Ferrie Scarie night in November.
The group meet on the first Friday of the month in Dalmeny Church Hall with membership costing £25 and £1 on the night.
Jill Woodley, secretary of SQWRI said: “We have been really busy over the past year and we hope to keep the momentum going with many exciting events planned over the coming 12 months.”
