A FUNDRAISER in memory of Queensferry girl Rachel Appolinari whose life was tragically cut short in August this year has raised over £17,000.
The black tie dinner at the Capital Hotel in Edinburgh on Sunday was staged to raise cash for the neuro-oncology Uunit at the Western General Hospital.
The event featured music and a fashion show, which were 19 year old Rachel’s two passions, and saw former Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus host the show while this year’s X-Factor contestant Jade Richards, from Fife, performed three songs.
Rachel’s father Steve said of the fundraiser: “It was pretty special. We had just under 240 people attend the event and it raised just over £17,000 on the night.
‘‘We are totally overwhelmed at the number of individuals who have given their hard-earned cash for the cause.”
Steve added that the fundraising activities do not end here, for tonight (Friday) there is an event being staged in Queensferry by the WRI and tomorrow (Saturday), a fundraising coffee morning is being staged at Fabio’s restaurant in Corstorphine, between 10am and 2pm.
Next year the Appolinari family hope to launch a UK-wide Rachel’s Relay event too. Rachel’s fund now stands at £36,000 including £19,000 raised online..
