St. John’s Hospital oncology unit has benefited from a £500 donation from a Linlithgow businessman.

Alan Mitchell, founder of Straight From The Cask, raises £500 a year by donating a rare, signed bottle of single malt whisky from Bruichladdich Distillery for a raffle. This year, the bottle, which was signed by Mary MacGregor, the shop manager at Bruichladdich, was won by Ian Stewart from Bo’ness after his name was picked from 100 entrants.

Ian is a customer at The Corbie Inn, Bo’ness, where Straight From The Cask often holds whisky tastings.

Since the business commenced in 2010, Alan has raised a total of £2500 which has been split between a number of worthy charities including Water Aid and the Ciara Caskie Allen Appeal.

Anna Clarkson, charge nurse in the oncology unit, which was this year’s recipient, said: “The staff are delighted with the generosity of the donation which will be used to promote patient comfort.”
