Queensferry lady Rose Ritchie received the British Empire Medal this week from the Rt. Hon. Donald Wilson, Lord Lieutenant and Lord Provost of Edinburgh.
Rose (81) received the award in recognition for her voluntary work with the RNLI in Queensferry which spans almost 30 years.
She joined the RNLI Queensferry Ladies Guild in 1984 and has been involved in the RNLI shop at the lifeboat station at the Hawes Pier since 1996 and has been in charge since 2000.
She and her fellow volunteers operated outside the old Station with a portable counter in all weathers sometimes in freezing cold conditions before the new RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat Station featuring a custom built heated shop opened last year.
Rose, who lives at the Castle Rock Housing complex in Queensferry, said she was delighted to receive the award and added: “I could not have run such a successful shop without tremendous help from her fellow lady volunteers and the members of the RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat crew.”
