To get in to the spirit of the Commonwealth Games and the Tour de France the Hippodrome, Bo’ness, is offering a special screening of films with a cycling theme in partnership with the West Lothian Clarion Cycling Club.

The headline feature, showing on Saturday, July 19, is the Oscar-winning 12A graded movie ‘‘Breaking Away’’ about a small-town teenager obsessed with the Italian
cycling team, and his efforts to win the annual cycle race.

Early birds can catch two pre-screening film shorts on a cycling theme, kicking off at 7.30pm with a public information film, narrated by comedian Kenny Everett, followed by ‘‘Way Back Home’’, by arrangement with Red Bull Media House, the jaw-dropping record of Scottish trials cyclist Danny MacAskill’s journey from Edinburgh to his home on Skye.

Two cycling specialists are also offering a prize for a lucky ticketholder.

Elevation Cycles in Linlithgow is putting up a Lazer helmet and Spokes: The Lothian Campaign is giving away a cycle route map.
