with results still coming in it looks like a historic night for the SNP across Scotland.

The political map across the Journal and Gazette area has turned yellow with SNP gains in constituency seats across Linlithgow, Falkirk East and Edinburgh West.

LINLITHGOW

SNP GAIN with a 6.4 per cent swing from Labour to SNP

Winner: Fiona Hyslop (SNP) - 17,027 (49.8 per cent)

Mary Mulligan (Labour) - 12,936 (37.8 per cent)

Christopher David Donnelly (Conservative) - 2,646 (7.7 per cent)

Jennifer Lang (Liberal Democrat) - 1,015 (3 per cent)

Mike Coyle (National Front) - 558 (1.6 per cent)

TURNOUT - 34,182 (52.5 per cent)

MAJORITY - 4,091 12

FALKIRK EAST

SNP GAIN with a 9.3 per cent swing from Labour to SNP

Winner: Angus MacDonald (SNP) - 14,302 (50.8 per cent)

Cathy Peattie (Labour) - 10,767 (38.2 per cent)

Lynn Monro (Conservative) - 2,372 (8.4 per cent)

Ross Laird (Liberal Democrat) - 727 (2.6 per cent)

TURNOUT - 28,168 (47.4 per cent)

MAJORITY - 3,535 (12.5 per cent)

EDINBURGH WEST

SNP GAIN with a 12.6 per cent swing from Liberal Democrat to SNP

Winner: Colin Keir (SNP) - 11,965 (35.8 per cent)

Margaret Joy Smith (Liberal Democrat) - 9,276 (27.7 per cent)

Lesley Hinds (Labour) - 7,164 (21.4 per cent)

Gordon Lindhurst (Conservative) - 5,047 (15.1 per cent)

TURNOUT - 33,452 (59.3 per cent)

MAJORITY - 2,689 (8 per cent)

ALMOND VALLEY

SNP HOLD with a 9 per cent swing from Labour to SNP

Winner: Angela Constance (SNP) - 16,704 (54.3 per cent)

Lawrence Fitzpatrick (Labour) - 11,162 (36.3 per cent)

Andrew Robert Hardie (Conservative) - 1,886 (6.1 per cent)
