NEXT month passengers across West Lothian will clock a change in their taxi fares.
West Lothian Council approved plans to change the fares for hire cars from Monday, October 22, with a review taking place every 18 months. Key differences include a 40p rise in the initial cost of booking a taxi, to £2.60 from weekday morning and daytimes, and £3 for evenings, through the night and weekends. The cancellation fee will also rise similarly to £2.60.
The peak rate for Christmas and New Year will fall by 50p to £3.90 for the initial hire, with the cost for travelling 240 yards or waiting for 43 seconds reduced from 40p to 30p. Additional passenger rates for children under five have been removed, and the rate for those aged between five and 12 will drop to 20p.
A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “These changes were implemented after consultation with the taxi industry, and no objections or comments were received when the proposals were advertised. Taxi fares haven’t changed in West Lothian since 2008, and it’s important they remain fair to both the public and taxi industry.”
