THE British Lung Foundation has welcomed a new Scottish Government campaign which accompanies figures revealing that Scotland leads the UK with its percentage of organ donors.
The campaign is designed to encourage Scots to sign up to the NHS organ donor register. It starts as figures show over 40 per cent of Scots have joined the register - the highest percentage of registered donors in the UK.
Head of the British Lung Foundation Scotland and Northern Ireland, Dr James Cant, said: “We’re delighted the Scottish Government has launched a campaign to get people thinking about organ donation.
“It’s not a subject people like to talk about, but it’s so important to know the wishes of our loved ones. Donating an organ really is giving the gift of life.
‘‘Scotland should be proud it’s leading the UK with its percentage of those who have added their name to the register.
‘‘We hope that even more people will consider taking similar, life-saving action.”
