Their Say, with guest columnist Margaret Paterson, WRVS

OLDER people’s charity, WRVS, is looking to capitalise on the three million men, fresh research has discovered intend to volunteer this year, and is launching a manhunt.

It is calling for men to join the charity and shed its image as a women only organisation. We do in fact have over 6000 male volunteers – but we want more!

We know that many men – 190,000 over the age of 75 – are lonely and a male volunteer, to go to the pub or the football with or even just have a chat and a cup of tea, can make all the difference, not only on their mental state, but also on their physical health.

The charity is hosting a men only question and answer on twitter on February 18, between noon and 2pm. Men interested are invited to pose questions to a male volunteer using a dedicated hashtag #manhunt.

The charity needs men and women to fill a variety of roles supporting older people including cook, handyman, driver, and companion for its Good Neighbours service.
