Tonic for the troops

Co-operative Funeralcare is once again accepting donations for morale boosting care packages for the charity Support Our Soldiers who send parcels to our troops.

At this time of year, many troops have been in Afghanistan for four or five months and, with the full support of the MOD, the charity sends out Easter parcels to cheer them up and to remind them they are close to going home.

Regional co-ordinator Lynn O’Brien said: “We get lots of feedback throughout the year from the troops who appreciate the generosity of the public.

‘‘They are often overwhelmed by the fact that complete strangers are thinking of their comfort and it can be humbling to read the letters that are sent from Afghanistan.

‘‘As each box can take several weekss to reach the recipient, we are already planning for Easter, even although they will just be receiving their Scottish Burns boxes.

‘‘We are asking members of the public to go along to their local Co-operative Funeralcare with either a cream egg donation or a 99p Easter egg as these fit snugly into the boxes we use.

‘‘I would like to thank the people of Falkirk District for their continued support both from myself and Support Our Soldiers but also from our lads and lassies serving on active duty”.

The Support Our Soldiers charity was founded in 2003 by a group of service families/friends/supporters who came together with the sole aim to provide support for serving men and women and their families at home. For further information visit their website www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk
