The southbound carriageway of the M9 will be closed for upgrading work this week meaning possible delays over the weekend.

The section from Railway Bridge to Sandyford near junctions 4 and 5 will close from 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday (November 14) with a contraflow system in place on the northbound carriageway.

The Junction 4 southbound on slip road will also be closed with a signed diversion route in operation.

Traffic intending to use the Junction 4 on slip road will be diverted northbound to Junction 5 and will return from here to re-join the southbound M9.

Amey say the work will cost £515,000 and is to improve the condition of the carriageway and strengthen the pavement areas to reduce the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Around 15,000 drivers use this stretch of road every day.
