But that was to allow the Olympic champion could board the bus and present the 18-year-old with her Sky Sports Living for Sport Student of the Year award for Scotland.

Sir Chris boarded the bus, which had been fitted with hidden cameras, to present a stunned Abbie with her award before taking her on the rest of her journey via rickshaw.

Sir Chris said: “Abbie’s passion and dedication to her role as project leader in Bo’ness Academy’s Sky Sports Living for Sport project is absolutely fantastic. Her ability to inspire and lead through Sky Sports Living for Sport has positively change the lives of many of her peers both in and out of the classroom.

“Bo’ness Academy should be very proud to have a student of Abbie’s calibre.”

The star pupil is one of thousands of secondary school youngsters participating in Sky Sports Living for Sport Projects which uses sport to help young people build practical skills and self confidence.

As project leader Abbie managed to inspire hundreds of fellow pupils to become more engaged and active at school, creating and running weekly dance classes, setting up school sports days and visiting local primary schools all while helping boost Abbie’s own confidence.

Bo’ness Academy teacher Jonathan MacWhirter said: “In all my years of teaching I have never met a pupil who is as dedicated and passionate as Abbie. Being involved in Sky Sports Living for Sport has changed Abbie’s life and given her so many opportunities she wouldn’t have had before.

“Abbie grabbed the Sky Sports Living for Sport project with both hands and made a positive impact to hundreds of pupils’ lives in Bo’ness. If ever there was a story which highlights the power of sport it is this one.”

The surprise presentation was shown on Sky Sports News today (Tuesday).
