What an achievement - and one that has surpassed everyone’s expectations - as the Gazette’s Romanian appeal reaches it’s target.
Anne Wilkinson is a woman on a mission - a dedicated and heartfelt mission to help the destitute, the dispossessed, and the desperate in Romania.
We started the ball rolling in March this year after speaking with Anne whose greatest desire, after having visited the country as a health visitor, was to return one day to try and help families living in poverty and desperation.
Having returned to Linlithgow in 2010 she set about trying to achieve this aim, which, until we stepped in to help had been floundering.
Our readers saw the benefit of the appeal and within days donations of baby milk, nappies and clothing were flooding in to our special drop off points.
It was then we were contacted by West Lothian Council offering their help by setting up donation boxes, Sainsburys, whose customers were knitting as did the residents of Brae Court, meaning the appeal reached its target three months earlier than was originally planned.
Anne said: “I am amazed with the amount we have received - and in such a short space of time. The response to the Gazette appeal has been truly overwhelming and I’d like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.’’
