On parade

Sir, – On Sunday, November 11, the annual remembrance service will be held in Bo’ness Old Kirk and at the town’s war memorial.

This year is the 70th anniversary of the battle of El Alamein.

Also, very soon now, it will be the centenary of World War 1.

UNISON Kinneil Band will once more lead the parade to the war memorial.

I would just like to point out that you do not have to be a member of the Royal British Legion to take part in the march.

If you have relatives or a friend who has served in the forces you will be made welcome.

It is a sad fact of life that, each year that passes, we lose a well kent face from our parade, so it would be lovely to see the remaining family members take their place.

Once again I will call upon the services of our lone piper who did us proud last year.

We have covered all aspects of the service, now all we can hope for is that the weather is good to us. – Yours etc.,

JOHN B. BELL

President, Royal British Legion

War pensions

Sir, – I wonder if your readers know that you do not have to have seen war service to qualify for a war disablement pension or a claim under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme?

The Royal British Legion Scotland provides a comprehensive and entirely free war pensions disablement advisory and advocate service, and you may be able to make a claim if you suffered an injury or medical condition resulting in a disablement that can be attributed to your former or existing military service.

For further advice contact the pensions office, 0131 550 1566, or visit website www.rblscotland.com, email:wpao@rblscotland.org. – Yours etc.,
