LINLITHGOW tennis pro Colin Fleming rubbed shoulders with the world's elite when he competed at Wimbledon last week.
Colin (24), who honed his skills at Linlithgow Tennis Club, competed in the men's doubles and mixed doubles.

He partnered Ken Skupski in the men's doubles last Thursday and they were in command at two sets to love up but lost the third on a tie break.

Their opponents Johan Brunstrom and Jean-Julien Rojer went on to take the remaining two sets and the match.

On Friday, he partnered Sarah Borwell to victory over three sets in their first round match of the mixed doubles.

They lost in straight sets, however, a day later to number 13 seeds, Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza, of India, in the second round.

The Journal and Gazette caught up with Colin this week just before he jetted off to Cordoba in Spain to compete in a tournament this weekend.
He said: "The men's doubles match was a tough pairing but we thought we could have won the match.

''With 64 pairs taking part, you never know who you will be up against.
''It is the luck of the draw and in the mixed doubles with Sarah we came up again against top seeds but still gave them a match."

Colin is currently ranked 141 in the world at doubles, is looking to progress.

For Wimbledon, he and Ken were given a wild card. Next year he hopes to qualify through form but he will need to attain a ranking of 75 or less.

Colin believes he is now performing better that he did two years ago when he competed with the likes of Jamie Murray, older brother of Andy.

And he added: "My ultimate aim is to be ranked in the top 100 in the singles but it is hard as, the bigger tournaments you take part in, the better opponents you meet and at the end of the day it is all about winning to move up the rankings."

After his weekend trip to Spain for an ATP Challenger tournament, Colin will compete in Manchester and then it is over to the States later this summer.

Elder brother, Michael, continues to coach tennis at Linlithgow Tennis Club throughout the summer for all ages and to all levels.

For more information telephone Michael on 07912 482919.

Michael will also be competing for his local club when they meet Hull in the last 16 of the National Club League at Linlithgow on Saturday, July 11, from 10.30am.

Spectators are welcome to come along and support the local club.
