Bo'ness United boss Stuart Hunter on his side's 5-0 rout at Gala Fairydean Rovers

The returning midfielder, who was out for over a year with an ACL injury, came off the bench for the second half at Netherdale and scored Bo’ness’ fifth goal in the 5-0 victory.

"It was great to see Jamie on the pitch and for him to grab fifth goal. That was the best part of the day for me – he has been out for so long and we managed to get him 45 minutes,” Hunter said. “That’s been over a year out for him and an ACL injury is a really tough one not only physically but mentally too."

On the result, which sees the BU level on points with second-placed Cumbernauld Colts in the Scottish Lowland Football League, he added: “You couldn’t really ask for more. We were clinical and completely ruthless. We scored some great goals and it takes us into the remaining six games of the season with optimism.”

On Tuesday night, the Newtown Park side’s Lowland League Cup run came to an end at the hands of East Kilbride at K Park. The hosts comfortably sealed their spot in the final four by three goals to nil.

Last year’s competition saw both sides meet in the final, with EK taking home the trophy on penalty kicks.

Meanwhile, East Stirlingshire, who had a free weekend, also return to action this weekend.

Pat Scullion’s side face East Kilbride at the Falkirk Stadium on league duty while Bo’ness United host Civil Service Strollers.
