Linlithgow Rose will this weekend will host a testimonial for long-serving player and fans favourite Gordon Herd.

Herd (31) hung up his boots at the end of last season after 10 years at the club.

A former Hearts youth player, he also played for Sauchie, Bo’ness and Dumbarton.

But it was with the Rose that he made his mark, hitting 119 goals in more than 300 appearances for the club.

He won two Scottish Junior Cup winners’ medals and two Super League winners’ medals as well as three caps for Scotland Juniors.

After two operations last season – to his ankle and hand – he knew it was time to hang up his boots.

He said: ‘‘The Rose has been a massive part of my life and it’s sad that I am shutting the book on my career.’’

Sunday’s testimonial at 2pm will see Rose legends such as Brian Carrigan and Mark Whyte line up against former Hearts Legends including John Robertson, Gary McKay and Alan McLaren. Admission is £5 and £2.
