It was the first ever Fun Day for the girls section of Linlithgow Rose Community Football Club last Sunday.
The girls club has gone from strength to strength since it started only three years ago, expanding from a starting squad of only four girls to over 80 girls training and playing regularly against teams across the region.
Coach Dave Barnes of LRCFC said: “It provides a great team sport for girls from eight–13 and is expanding exponentially.
“Girls and women’s football is gaining in popularity all the time and with the Scotland National Women’s Squad moving inside the top 20 countries in world football and 11th in Europe; their highest-ever position in the FIFA world rankings.
“Hopefully, one day soon, we can have some Linlithgow players in the Scotland squad.”
The fun day was organised to test the girl’s footballing skills, with six different age groups competing for medals on the day, as well as a tasty selection of burgers, cakes, and sweets, alongside an entertaining tombola and raffle.
Dave added: “We also had some very generous donations from local businesses we were able to raise almost £600 for the club funds. We couldn’t have run the event without the very generous support from Sainsbury’s, Far From The Madding Crowd, Salon 2000, Tesco’s, Home Base, The Scottish Malt Whisky Society and the SFA.”
