Linlithgow Rose 3

Coyne 3, Roddy Maclennan 46, McArthur 84

Ballingry Rovers 2

Blackadder 15, Sinclair 53

The Rose got off to a flying start in this league game, scoring after just three minutes when following good build-up play, Roddy Maclennan slipped the ball through to Coyne who
slotted past ex-Rose keeper llison with ease.

The Rose could have gone further ahead a few minutes later but Shirra’s deflected cross was touched over the bar by Allison’s fingertips.

In the 10th minute, Gibson was booked for a soft foul as the Rose dominated play. Strickland was unlucky to see his shot clip the crossbar following good play from Ruari Maclennan.

Somewhat surprisingly, after 15 minutes, referee Gavin Ross awarded Ballingry a soft free-kick on the edge of the box. Blackadder fired his shot high past Christie to level the score.

Within seconds of the restart, the Rose regained the lead. Coyne played a nice ball to Gibson on the overlap, and his cross was headed away only as far as Roddy Maclennan who controlled the ball on his chest before hitting a ferocious half volley past Allison.

Dunn needlessly conceded a corner. Ruari Maclennan cleared the initial header off the line before another shot hit the bar and the ball fell to Sinclair who forced home the equaliser.

The Rose substitutes made an immediate impact. Herd did well on the right and fired in a great cross but no-one was able to turn the ball into the net. Then, in the 84th minute, just after McArthur’s loose pass allowed Campbell an opportunity to shoot narrowly wide, the Rose man got on the end of a long ball forward and buried the ball in the bottom left
corner of the net.

The Rose could have extended their lead in the dying minutes of the match but Smith’s header hit the post and from the rebound, Allison somehow saved Herd’s close range header and then Coyne’s volley clipped the bar before going over.
