WEST Lothian Wolves ladies were in action against Midlothian Saints.
It was the Wolves’ third game against Saints, having visited them in the Chairman’s Cup and again earlier in the basketball league.
Having been defeated twice, by relatively small margins, the Wolves were out for a win.
It was a positive start for the Wolves who ran the plays well and kept the pressure on Saints. By the end of the first quarter it was tied at 11 points each.
Building on their strong start, the Wolves came out fighting in the second quarter and convincingly took the lead.
By half time the Wolves were winning 27-18.
Going into the third quarter both teams kept the pressure on and showed strong defence, however it was Saints who came off better, closing the gap to five points.
In the fourth quarter it was all or nothing for both teams.
After a scoring lull, the Wolves again started to find their shots but Saints responded with a couple of three-pointers in quick succession which closed the gap to two.
Within the final 30 seconds of the game, both teams called a time-out to take advantage of the floor positioning.
Neither team was able to take advantage of this and the ball changed possession time and again bringing the game to a nail-biting close.
As neither team scored in the dying seconds the Wolves managed to hold on to their lead, winning 42-40.
