TWENTY teams contested the Scottish Schools’ Fencing Championships held at Bathgate Academy at the weekend.

The teams represented Linlithgow Academy, Braes High School (Falkirk), St. Columba’s (Fife), Dunblane and Strathallan Schools.

Most of the medals and trophies up for grabs found their way to Linlithgow Academy with the West Lothian School winning seven of the 12 categories.

The competition is split into under 15 (S1, S2 and S3) and Oover 15 (S4, S5,S6), girl and boy events across all three weapons - sabre, foil and epee.

The level of competition means that young people get a chance to fence as part of at team and that means that there is less pressure on the less experienced fencers and it ends up that everyone is competing on a level playing field with the other teams.
