LAST Friday saw the annual Linlithgow Rugby Club dinner for season 2011/2012.

Craig Young, president was in the chair and he welcomed the two guest speakers, Gary Armstrong, former Scotland and Lions playing legend and Peter Brown, a former banker and a well-respected speaker on the after- dinner circuit. Craig then led a minute’s applause in memory of club stalwart Jimmy Cairns who sadly died earlier in the week.

Barry McKeown opened proceedings with grace and everyone enjoyed an excellent meal prepared by Roddy and Sandy Bain.

Gary Armstrong gave a toast to the game, adding a few anecdotes from his playing career that everyone enjoyed and also gave his honest opinion of the modern game of rugby and training methods!

Outgoing club captain, Matt Dixon, replied and followed this with a presentation of whisky and an engraved decanter from the playing side to Gordon Dixon for his six years as director of rugby.

Gary Armstrong then went on to present the awards. The Roll of Honour was: Player of the Year - Matthew Archer; 2nd XV Player of the Year - David Martin; 3rd XV Player of the Year - Neil Lockhart; Young Player of the Year - Ross Plenderleith; Most Improved Player of the Year - Euan Gunn; Matthew Archer received his 20 game tie, the only recipient this year. Neil Dori-Muir is the Club Member of the Year.
