FOOTBALL stars from Bo’ness Academy are celebrating after winning a Scotland-wide schools’ five-a-side tournament held at Premier League side Bolton Wanderers’ ground, the Reebok Stadium.
The victorious S3/4 team won 4-2 on penalties in the final - a match that felt like a local derby, playing against Falkirk High School!
Trials were held before the trip, as only six boys could be taken in both S1/2 and S3/4.
While the younger lads were unlucky not to progress past the group stages, missing out on the quarter finals by a point, the S3/4 team topped their group, unbeaten.
They triumphed over Lanark Grammar in the semis, on penalties, and were again successful from the spot against finalists Falkirk, after the match ended 1-1 in normal time.
Bo’ness goalie Craig Livingstone made two great penalty saves, helping the team lift the cup.
PE teacher and co-coach Fiona Cavana said: “They received a full Bolton strip and two tickets each to a Bolton match next season for winning as well as their medals and the cup.
“All of the players played extremely well and it was a nice way for Dave Watson their coach to finish his school football coaching career.
“It was a very successful trip and we are looking at doing it again in the future.”
The winning players were: Craig Livingstone, Brodie Grieve, Dylan Robb, Christopher Hamilton, Aiden Tully and Ross Nimmo.
