LINLITHGOW Rose marched into the last 16 of the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup with a convincing win over Arthurlie last weekend while Bo’ness United’s cup tie fell foul of the weather.
The fourth round tie at Dunterlie Park was one of only four played and despite the pitch being heavy underfoot, it did not seem to deter the style of attacking football that the Rose have displayed all season as they put four past their Glasgow opposition.
Rose boss Bradley said: “It was another good result away from home. We did not start well but after 10 minutes got back into the game and went ahead. We then switched off and lost a poor goal.
“We came out at the start of the second half and hit them for three in 10 minutes. All credit to Arthurlie, even though they were 4-1 down, they kept coming at us.”
Tomorrow (Saturday) the Rose face Tranent (away) in the second round of the Fife and Lothians Cup and Bradley is more than aware that the lower league club will be out to take a Super League scalp. He said: “We are confident we can win the match but will take nothing for granted, especially away from home.”
nWEATHER woes were compounded by bad news on the injury front this week for United boss Allan McGonigal.
Defender Stuart Hunter will be out for six to eight weeks with ligament damage to his knee.
McGonigal described the loss of his best player as “massive”.
Left back/left midfield Alan Lawson, nephew of United legend Ronnie Scott, has been signed on loan from Stenhousemuir until the end of the season.
In other squad news, Craig Donaldson’s contract from East Stirlingshire has been extended for another month initially.
Craig Morrison has returned to United from Dundonald and Jamie Hay has a leg injury. Jordan Allan of Hamilton Accies has come in for Connor Wallace with his broken foot.
Heavy rain has once again raised questions about the twice-postponed cup tie against Dundee Violet, which United hope to finally play tomorrow (Saturday). Their 1-1 friendly draw against Newtongrange Star last Saturday allowed McGonigal to get an insight into Dundee Violet from the Star manager, whose side were beaten by them earlier this season.
“They will have a real hard-working ethic,” he said.“We’ve got to be at our best and can’t carry any passengers. Players would have to win their individual battles”, he said.
