Neil Spears of West Lothian IBC and Gary Orr of Balbardie IBC carry their respective club banners in the playdown action of the Scottish Singles Championship being played at East Kilbride IBC over this weekend.
The field is 49 strong and it is a cracking line up that includes major figures in the shape of defending champion Iain McLean of Blantyre , Billy Mellors of East Lothian, Jonathan Ross of Paisley, Darren Burnett of Arbroath, Ronnie Duncan of Midlothian, Robert Grant of Lanarkshire, and Paul Foster of Prestwick.
Also, Jim McLarrie of Coatbridge, Mike Stephen of Aberdeen, Steven Allan of Falkirk, Kevin Wallace of Alloa, Mike Stepney of Elgin, Kevin Anderson of Dumbarton, Mark Kelsey of West of Scotland, and Craig Paterson of Bainfield.
Speirs reached the final in 2009 and with a gold medal triumph in the 2014 Commonwealth Games to inspire him in his bid to achieve more high profile success opens his latest bid for glory against Lee Collins of Garioch on Saturday’s 11.30am session.
If successful the West Lothian champion will continue in the 3.30pm session against Connor Milne of Turriff or Hugh Sharpe of Clydebank.
There is also a 5-30pm session on Saturday, Sunday times are 11am and 2pm, with the final outcome producing the four semi-finalists to compete for the title at Fraserburgh on the weekend of Saturday, January 31.
