Five intrepid youths from the West Lothian Clarion Cycling Club crossed the border recently to take on a 40km cycling challenge set in the rolling hills around the picturesque Northumberland town of Wooler.

Not only did the club send the largest representation of any visiting club but they also sported the youngest rider at just eight years-old.

Ross, Finn, Alex, Sam and Abbie set off in perfect formation and it soon became clear that the winter training had served them
well.

Two punctures, one ice cream stop and just less than two hours of cycling time later the peloton rolled into the finish to the cheers of the crowd.

‘‘There is no doubt that this will become an annual event for the club,’’ said a Clarion spokesman.
