Last Friday was a special day for Linlithgow RFC as it took ownership of its new £450,000 indoor training centre.
The building work is now complete on the new facility and it has been handed over to the club.
Linlithgow RFC president, Craig Young, said: “We are delighted that the work has been completed on schedule and both the club and local community have this brand new facility for use.
‘‘I would like to congratulate Stewart Homes on completing their work on schedule. We have been delighted with the way they have worked with us on the project.”
Craig added: “There remain one or two minor tasks to be completed to finish the building off but these will take a matter of days.
‘‘We also need to have the pitch inspected so that it conforms to international quality requirements but this should be through very soon. It does not stop us using the pitch for a whole range of activities right away.”
The indoor training centre, which cost just under £450,000 to build, consists of a 3G pitch measuring 38 by 18 metres, a strength and conditioning suite and changing rooms with showers. The venture was supported financially by sportscotland, Cash Back for Communities and the Land Trust.
Club members have also been heavily involved in a whole range of fundraising activities from whisky tastings and a gala dinner at Murrayfield in partnership with the Bill McLaren Foundation to collecting money in the now-famous piggy banks.
Craig said: “We have made it clear from the start that this facility is for the use of local sports clubs and organisations as well as the rugby club.
‘‘We have two or three groups interested in hiring it and I am sure, as word spreads, there will be many others. I would like to thank everyone who has supported us in making our plan a reality.”
