Spectators were treated to a day of top level tennis matches at the Linlithgow Tennis Club’s championship finals day last Sunday.

The club’s best players competed in singles and doubles finals. Around 100 tennis members had entered the 18 different events and played preliminary rounds over the summer, with only finalists making it to the last day of the competition.

Brothers, Craig and Andrew Stevens battled for the title of men’s champion. Andrew went 3-0 up in the first set but Craig came back with some powerful serving to take the set 6-4. Craig held on to his lead to win the match and the title for the fourth year in a row, with a final score of 6-4, 6-1.

Ian Kirkwood won the men’s over 40 and over 50 titles while the men’s doubles champions were Andrea Pedreschi and Andrew Stevens.

Julia Stevens won the ladies singles title, the under 16 girls singles and under 16 girls doubles with partner Louise Pettigrew. Louise was also runnerup in the ladies’ singles. Ladies 40+ champion was Ashley Mears for the third year running. Ashley was also runner–up in the mixed doubles with Paddy Duffy while the winners were David Bowmaker and Edith McDowall.
