Queensferry badminton ace Matthew Carder’s hopes of European success evaporated in Poland.
Competing for Scotland in the Polish International in Lubin, Carder had battled his way through to the main draw of the men’s singles.
The seventh qualifying seed started with a bye then won a tight contest against Kyryll Nesterenko 21-15 23-21, saving two game points in the second game before winning on his first match point.
Then he toppled Poland’s Krzysztop Jakowczuk 21-13 21-14.
Those two wins earned the Queensferry player a first-round clash with Hsu Jui Ting of Taiwan but he was on the losing end of a three-set contest, going down 21-18, 15-21, 21-15.
