The Under 15 City of Edinburgh Boys volleyball team recently won the Junior National League title when they beat South Ayrshire 2-0 in their final game of the season.
The team, which plays out of Queensferry High School, is coached by Ian Brownlee who said: ‘‘We have never set out with the primary target of getting a gold medal or winning the JNL for any team over the years and it is not what the volleyball academy is about.
“It is more about the all round development of young athletes and young people, and creating an environment where they can make make progress in a team sport, grow as people, and be successful.
‘‘And if we do a good job of that then of course sometimes we do get medals and that is a great achievement for everyone.
“It is not so much that they won, it is about the volleyball they were able to play, given where they were three months ago.
“That is a real achievement for them and for the volleyball academy
“Similarly the girls have achieved so much and it is great to see them growing in confidence and the improvements in their volleyball.’’
The girls under 15 squad also finished level on points with Marr College A but took second place due to the percentage of sets won.
