LINLITHGOW fencer Michael McCourt is set to represent Scotland at the Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games finals.
Michael (18) of Golf Course Road, was delighted to be picked saying: “I am very pleased to have been selected - it is a great opportunity and promises to be a memorable experience.
‘‘It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am very much looking forward to experiencing the Olympic venues and the atmosphere they will create.
“I want to compete to the best of my ability and do well for Scotland and myself in the individual and team events and be a good team player in the team event.
“The main challenges I have experienced over the last couple of years have been fitting fencing around school and university work and exams, trying to make sure that I train the maximum number of hours that I can.”
The Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games is backed by National Lottery funding from Sport England, and is a multi-sport event for school-aged athletes from May 6-9.
Around 1600 young people will compete across 12 sports, six of which include disability competition. The Olympic Stadium, Velodrome, Aquatics Centre and ExCeL Centre in London will be among the venues hosting competitions.
